Papaya Research

Carica Papaya is known by many names from ‘Tepayas’ in parts of East Malaysia and Venezuela; ‘Pawpaw’ in Sri Lanka through to ‘Papali’ in India.

The fruit, seeds, latex and extracts have long been used to treat various ailments around the world1. Papaya fruits and leaves are traditionally used in South-East Asia and Africa for wound healing and the treatment of inflammation (e.g., during burns2). In Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam the Papaya latex is used to treat eczema and psoriasis3. The Papaya seeds are also very beneficial on the bites and stings of poisonous insects4.
